A Ghazal for Gaza

Would you really know how searingly does injustice burn,

Until your skin tastes the ashes raining down on Gaza?

I read parents are writing names on children’s bodies.

Think of orphaned limbs dying nameless in Gaza.

Speak! For your silence is as deafening,

As lethal as the bombs going off in Gaza.

Leaders of the “free world,” you say you dream of peace and freedom.

Why can’t you bear it when people dream the same in Gaza?

A land yes, Ankur, but also the language of resistance is Gaza.

You would do well to bathe your tongue in Gaza.
